The Greenway's Future

(Updated May 2008)

  • A government grant requesting funds for Phase V (Raider Drive to Tinsley Park) was submitted in 2007. Phase V will proceed north under Raider Drive, cross Mouse Creek behind Raider Field and connect with the current Tinsley Park Trail. The plan is to improve the Tinsley trail and connect with the Greenway at Mimosa Drive.
  • In the summer of 2008, a passage under Paul Huff Parkway will connect with the completed section on the Home Depot side of Paul Huff. The Greenway will proceed south to the City school property.
  • Employees of the City of Cleveland will complete a section of the Greenway from the City school property south to an underpass of the new Mimosa Drive bridge.
  • A future phase calls for the southern origination point of the greenway at the Village Green. This phase will go under Inman Street (underpass already completed) and will terminate at Willow Street.
  • In years to come, the greenway will continue from Mohawk Drive to the Hiwassee River. The exact route and surfaces have not been determined, but will likely incorporate the Cleveland Utilities easement near the soccer complex.
  • “Spurs” of the original conception of the Greenway (Village Green to Hiwassee) have been considered and include a passage under 25th Street from Spring Creek development to Lee University, a neighborhood connector north along Fillauer Branch, and passage under Keith Street from Tinsley Park to the McKenzie Financial Center.

(updated October 2006)

  • A government grant for $496,987 was received in August of 2006 to fund Phase III from 20th Street to Willow Street. It will include two paths under bridges: 20th and 17th Streets. It will also include a footbridge between 17th Street and Willow.
  • The Cleveland Rotary Club dedicated a trailhead entrance at Willow as part of their Rotary Centennial project in June 2006 and will be incorporated in Phase III.
  • In August of 1999 Bradley County was awarded a grant from the Recreation Trails Program to acquire a 2-acre tract along Mouse Creek at Willow Street. This will also be incorporated into Phase III.
  • A future phase calls for the southern origination point of the greenway at the Village Green. This phase will go under Inman Street (underpass already completed) and will terminate at Willow Street.
  • Tentative plans for the leg beginning at Raider Drive will proceed north under Raider Drive and include natural, cement and asphalt surfaces following the current trail to Tinsley Park.
  • In late 2006 and early 2007, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will be replacing the bridge at Mimosa Drive and Mouse Creek Road and will be installing an underpass for the Greenway as part of the project.
  • Cleveland Utilities is currently constructing a water retainment and pumping station at Mimosa between Mimosa Drive and Paul Huff Parkway along the proposed greenway corridor. CU will work to prepare the path as budgets allow.
  • A $50,000 TDOT grant was obtained in summer 2006 to partially fund the greenway to continue south under Paul Huff parkway from the current Home Depot section.
  • In years to come, the greenway will continue from Mohawk Drive to the Hiwassee River. The exact route and surfaces have not been determined, but will likely incorporate the Cleveland Utilities easement near the soccer complex.
