About the Greenway
Greenways are corridors of land recognized for their ability to connect people and places together. These ribbons of open space are located within linear corridors that are either natural, such as rivers and streams, or manmade, such as abandoned railroad beds and utility corridors.
Greenway trails can be paved or unpaved, and can be designed to accommodate a variety of trail users, including bicyclists, walkers, hikers, joggers, skaters, horseback riders, and those confined to wheelchairs.
The Cleveland/Bradley County Greenway is a linear corridor along Mouse Creek, eventually stretching from the Village Green shopping and office center to the Hiwassee River in Charleston. As of August 1, 2005, two phases of the greenway had been completed between 20th and 25th Street (Phase One) and 25th Street and Raider drive (Phase Two).
As of May, 2008, three phases of the greenway had
been completed between 20th and 25th Street (Phase One), 25th Street and Raider
drive (Phase Two) and 20th Street to Willow Street (Phase III).
Highlights of the greenway include an 18-space parking area at the north end of
Harris Circle, three pedestrian bridges that cross Mouse Creek, four underpasses
(Keith Street, 17th, 20th and 25th Streets), and a connection to the Prayer Walk
Plaza at the Church of God International Offices.
The Cleveland/Bradley County Greenway is under the control and jurisdiction of a specially-appointed board and administered through the Bradley County Planner's office.
